Sleepless Night(Alex)
Despite being in such peculiar surroundings, sleep came quickly to Alex. As usual though, it was not a peaceful slumber. Within a few hours of falling asleep the nightmare began. It always started out the same way, with Alex in the kitchen with her mother, helping to prepare the evening meal. All to quickly the dream changed from this happy memory to the nightmare- screaming, gun shots, smoke - to be played out over and over again until she forced herself to wake.
Alex sat there in the blackness of the wood trying to collect herself. Sweat trickling down her flushed face while her hair clung to her forehead and neck in damp auburn ringlets. She found her canteen inside one of the saddlebags and took a drink.
If only I could go back in time and stop this from happening to them. Things would have been so much better, so much happier. But now....
Look at me, I don't even know where I'm at. How can I finish serving my retribution when the man I seek is not here?
What am I going to do?
Behind the protective cover of the trees it watched the stranger cry silently in the night. The creature shifted its weight from one hoof to the other, careful to not make a sound. For some unknown reason it could not leave his vigilance of this human. She seemed so fragile yet had the appearance of being quite self-sufficient.
The creature reflected on this unwelcomed visitor to his woods.
Why is such a lovely creature so sad and alone in the woods? She should be sleeping in her house or one of the hotels, not out here on the cold hard earth. What has happened in her life to cause her such pain that not even sleep can bring respite? What is her story?
The creature again shifted his weight, aware that the sun would soon be coming up. He was saddened by the thought of leaving the girl alone but he did not wish to frighten her. It appeared to him that she had enough to be afraid of within her own mind.
After pushing the images of her nightmare away, Alex lay down to try and get a little more shut-eye. She knew that she would need to be well rested to face whatever the new day held instore for her.
