Musings of Lost Souls

These are the stories of those folks that have never had their fifteen minutes. They go to the Serendipity whenever they want something. Just around the corner...down the block...through the alley, Serendipity is always nearby. Just ask for Phae he's the owner/bartender. As you opened the door and entered through the portal...

Ein Beer Bitte(Moe, Zhu-Rong)

Moe had never felt so out of place yet at home at the same time. He looked around one last time and decided it was safe to lower his guard. The bartender was looking his way as he wiped a large glass that seemed like it would fit his hand rather well…if it had some drink in it. The bartender began to walk over to him when he was stopped by a lady, his help no doubt. They exchanged a brief conversation, too low for Moe to hear but no doubt in his mind about him. The conversation ended with the lady throwing a final retort over her shoulder as she moved off to tend to a rather foul smelling man who had sat down.

"What can I help ya with today, lad?" The bartender said sliding over towards him.

"A drink would help get things started, and any food the kitchen has ready will be fine. Other than that I just need some time to think and rest. It’s been a rough couple of days. " He said laying some coin on the counter.

Had Moe known about the lone gunman on top of the building across the street he would have asked the bartender for more than a drink. But even as he was speaking his order, his nemesis was powering up the bio-therm scope on the PU-38. The sighting system was as amazing as the weapon it was tied to. It worked in a dual mode. The first was in the thermal spectrum allowing the shooter to see in any light level or through certain objects by detecting subtle variations in heat and translating that into a red tinted image. This was a redundant feature for Zhu-Rong since he could allow his eyes to shift into that spectrum naturally. The feature he needed was the bio-analyzer mode, where it could sort out the analyzed DNA from his programmed target and highlight it in vivid color, thus allowing the target to be tracked more easily. Also this served as a control for the shooters. Since the scope could be programmed with DNA by Ergos command before the mission the shooter did not have to know anything about his target. Just get to the right place and shoot the bright spot in the crosshairs. Again it was unnecessary with Zhu-Rong since he was awarded top honors in every lead slinger match he had ever competed in. But tonight it was a nice thing to have. Shooting though a wall had its complications.

Zhu-Rong surveyed the area thought the scope. A man was walking towards the door of the bar when he stopped abruptly looking his direction. He knew he had not been seen, camouflage was a talent that had came naturally to Zhu-Rong, but the man seemed like he knew he was there. He saw the man ever so subtly reach into his coat and remove a small object, which appeared in the thermal mode as cold as steel. He moved his finger onto the trigger.

"Don’t do it. You are not who I have come for tonight." He thought to himself.

After a few seconds the man steeped inside the portal and closed the door behind him. Zhu-Rong relaxed his finger on the trigger. Glad to be rid of the man for he had a foul stench about him that carried up even to this height.

"Time to get this done so I can get out of here"

He flipped the Bio mode on and sighted towards Serendipity. What he saw confused him. Instead of the normal red silhouettes and pulsing biorhythms all he saw was starbursts of colors. It was like someone had replaced his scope with a kaleidoscope. He would have to investigate this further after the mission.

"Well it looks like the easy way is out." He thought. "I’ll have to do this one the old fashioned way"

"Ergos 1 to base"

"Base go ahead Ergos 1"

"Target obstructed, will have to engage on more personal level"

"Roger, insure recovery of the device, avoid all other contact, base Out"

He packed the PU-38 back into its case and removed the two Desert Eagle Mark XIX pistols. These always brought a smile to his face. Just simple auto pistols that fired .50AE ammunition. Little package big boom. He placed the pen laser in the small of his back just under his belt and holstered the eagles, shut the lid on the case and ensured that it locked. He then stood and looked at the Serendipity. No need to go in there after him. Especially with the rancid, salty-fish smelling man in there. He was after only one target.

He could wait.
